Last updated: 11 July 2010

Country Focus - Sunday 11th July at 0730 ; repeated 12th July at 0530 presented by Rachael James.

Red Kite chicks from Powys are being sent to Ireland to re-establish the birds there. The young birds are collected from nests in the wild by members of the Welsh Kite Trust, brought to an aviary at the Gigrin Red Kite centre at Rhayader before being shipped to County Wicklow in Ireland and County Down in Northern Ireland. Rachael James hears how the four year project is being undertaken to give Red Kites a foothold in Ireland where the native population died out almost two centuries ago.
