Scallops have become a multi-million-pound business, fuelled by their popularity with celebrity TV chefs, which in turn has led to increasing customer demands. According to the Shellfish Association of Great Britain - in 2008 UK vessels landed over 3000 tonnes of scallops into Wales - worth £5.2m pounds. But in Cardigan Bay, scallop dredging has become a controversial issue. And a significant increase of dredging in the area prompted the Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones to announce new regulations in order Iolo ap Dafydd heads out of Fishguard on a boat owned by a local Scallop fisherman and airs the views.
