Digging up a Roman Villa

How the Welsh countryside can tell us about the past, with the help of archaeology and perhaps change a few of our assumptions.

Last updated: 07 February 2010

Country Focus - Sunday 7th February at 07.30am presented by Gilbert John
In this week's Country Focus Gilbert John joins a team of archaeologists who look at the Welsh countryside with a very different point of view - wondering what the hills and fields are hiding. In particular he is handed a trowel himself to scrape away in a ditch at an excavation on the site of a former Roman Villa near Llangadog. But he also learns about the discovery of two Roman forts and even an ancient boat buried under sand dunes.
