World Heritage 10 years on

The second of a two part series looking at World heritage status - last week it was Orkney and this week we're in Blaenavon

Last updated: 08 November 2009

Country Focus - Sunday 8th November at 07.30am presented by Melanie Doel

World heritage status is only granted to unique reminders of our past such as the pyramids of Egypt. Ten years ago the Orkney Isles achieved such status - closely followed by Blaenavon in the heartlands of the south Wales valleys. Last week on Country Focus we went back in time to enjoy a unique insight into life there, 5000 years ago among the neolithic ruins. But today we celebrate a very different history - one based on a colourful, industrial and much more recent past - Blaenavon in the south Wales valleys.
