Update for Country Focus 22nd March 2009
Our heritage, wool and young green fingers.
Country Focus - Sunday 22nd March at 07.30am presented by Mel Doel.
A large number of historic buildings in Wales are falling into disrepair and dereliction - with up to a third of listed buildings under threat of being lost altogether. Country Focus talks to the Prince's Regeneration Trust as they get together with other key heritage bodies to consider the best way forward to tackle the backlog of buildings at risk.
Wales is famed for it's old Welsh dressers inhabiting a corner of many a home - but do we still have the skills to make such exquisite pieces of furniture? We visit Coleg Ceredigion in Cardigan which has the only furniture making and restoration class in the country, offering students the chance to learn modern and traditional skills......and with sustainability the buzz word of today the starting point has to be the wood itself.
We meet the designer using the wool from her sheep on her Pembrokeshire
farm and the children at a nursery school in Cardiff that has been singled out by the Royal Horticultural Society because of the way it uses the great outdoors to teach and inspire the pupils to live greener lifestyles.
