Update for Country Focus 1st March 2009

Flying kites and growing it alone.

One of the simplest joys of life on a breezy day -kite flying, but is it a harmless pursuit or a hazard in our parklands?

Country Focus - Sunday 8th March at 07.30am presented by Mel Doel.

Some local authorities have brought in restrictions on kite flying in parks and on beaches to protect people using the facilities. But is the hobby an innocent pleasure or a danger to the public? Mel Doel goes out with a couple of enthusiasts and discovers that kite flying is no longer a question of flying a diamond in sky with a tail of bows - it has come a long way in recent years.

Do you ever talk to your dog? Or more importantly do you actually know what your pooch is telling you? We meet a leading author and dog whisperer who says our lack of understanding of what man's best friend is saying to us leads to unhappiness for them and problems for us. Graeme Sims book is called "Give a Dog a Home - how to make your rescue dog a happy dog" and is published by Headline.

And growing it alone - try putting your name down for an allotment these days and you're likely to be faing a long wait. So more and more groups are turning their backs on council waiting lists and choosing to organise one privately. One of the latest is in Narbeth in Pembrokeshire where applicants waited more than 15 years to be granted land by the council only to give and find their own plot.
