Update for Country Focus 22nd February 2009

The Red Squirrel

Our native red squirrel was once common in our forests and gardens but since the arrival of their grey cousins to our shores their numbers have been devastated.

Country Focus - Sunday 22nd February at 07.30am presented by Pauline Smith.

Country Focus is on Anglesey where the red squirrel population is now the largest in Wales - that's thanks to the Anglesey Red Squirrel project that has been running for over ten years to conserve them on the island in the woodlands. To restore this enchanting mammal though it ahs been necessary to cull the grey squirrels on the island and now only a few of them remain. Pauline Smith sets of in search of the red squirrel and examines it's prospects for future survival.
