Asparagus - wild and farmed.

Country Focus - Sunday 11th May at 7.30am, presented by Mel Doel.

It's asparagus season - a short season looked forward to, and loved by foodies. But did you know that there is also a wild asparagus - that loves our cliffs? Dr Tim Rich is a Botonist at the National Museum of Wales takes us looking for rare shoots of the plant living on the cliffs of the Gower Peninsula. Efforts are on to try and save wild asparagus from extinction.

But while wild asparagus is struggling to survive the farmed version is a growing business for producers Nick and Pat Bean and it's a busy time for them at Springfields' farm in Manorbier, in Pembrokeshire. Of course it would be rude not to try their produce so it's off to meet the experts at Y Polyn restaurant in Nantgaredig for a taste of Welsh asparagus at its best.
