Rally, seeds and walnuts.
Country Focus - Sunday 25th November at 7.30am :
The Wales Rally GB 2007 gets underway this week. It's a massive event in the motorsport world. 120,000 spectators are expected over the four days, generating more than £10 million for the Welsh economy. It takes place predominantly in Wales's forests and woodlands. But how does that affect the environment?
The clamp down on irresponsible dog owners - there's nothing more guaranteed to spoil a walk than treading in dog mess. But soon, owners who don't clean up after their dogs could be fined, as local authorities in Wales seek to implement new legislation. Pembrokeshire is leading the way with plans to enforce the regulations on the National Trust's Stackpole Estate.
How you can gather seeds from your own garden. In the Dyfi valley seed savers are looking for local Welsh vegetable varieties that have been grown from locally saved seed, and the aim is to characterise and make them available to growers around the country. Anyone who has a variety they would like to add or would like more information can contact them at welshseedsearch@gmail.com or call Chloe on 01654 700 288.
And from Wales with love, the walnut trees rooting their way around the world - thousands of walnut trees are being prepared to travel to gardens and estates all over the continent and the UK, from two small holdings, near Llandeilo. Two brothers, who thought there would be a market for walnuts ...have now become recognised as the principal suppliers of the trees ...and customers are coming from all over.
