Battle for the Allotment.
Country Focus - Sunday 1st June at 7.30am, presented by Mel Doel.
So many of us lead stressful lives these days that it's no wonder that more of us are taking up allotment plots to relax and ease the strain. But it's not always easy to get an allotment plot and when you do how much support is available? In the Rhondda Valley one community is being evicted from their allotments that have been in existence for almost a hundred years. The case at Haigside allotments in Treherbert is perhaps unique in that they also have pigeon fanciers and a riding school for the disabled but the battle to keep an allotment site is sadly a familiar tale. Yet, as Mel Doel hears, according to the Allotment Doctor, Terry Walton, local authorities are honour bound to provide allotments and we should all be getting out and tilling the ground and growing our own.
