Beacons debate

On the 50th anniversary of the Brecon Beacons National Park, a conference is dicussing what's next for this national institution.

Brecon Beacons

It's the 50th anniversary of the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority and to launch the celebrations more than 200 conservationists from across Britain will gather at a key conference at Brecon this week. The theme of this year's debate is Values in Nature, but it will also tackle a number of controversial issues: do we really need conservation? should the landscape be abandoned or even allowed to go wild? And there will be a call for beavers to be re-introduced to the Beacons.

Orchards

They once played an important role on farms and country estates in Wales, supplying fruit for the house or as payment for farmhands. But as the knowledge to maintain them has disappeared, so too have many of these orchards. In Pembrokeshire, attempts are being made to revive these skills through training days.
