Islam and British Muslims / Teen Challenge

Multiculturalism and social cohesion remain a significant challenge to Western societies. With the presence and growth of Islam, now Britain's second largest religion, come urgent and important questions about how religious identity works with effective integration into local communities.

Addressing some of those issues is the "Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK" at Cardiff University which is currently running a series of Public Lectures on the role of Islam in contemporary society. In this week's "All Things Considered" (Sunday 1 February 8.30am, repeated Wednesday 4 February 6.30pm) Peter Baker talks to one its key note speakers, Ziauddin Sardar, a leading Muslim writer and thinker, about his views on Islam, public space and British Muslims.

Also in the programme, Jay Fallon, recently announced as the next Director for the Christian organisation Teen Challenge which helps young drug addicts, talks about his own ten year problem of addiction.
