A modern-day John the Baptist
On All Things Considered this week (Sunday 4 February at 8.32am, repeated Thursday 8 February at 6.03pm), Roy Jenkins' guest is John Bell of the Iona Community, a preacher who has been described as a modern-day John the Baptist.
In the Independent newspaper's list of '50 men and women who make our world a better place' he was ranked one of the most important figures in contemporary Christianity.
John Bell combines a passion for issues of social justice, with a desire to get people in church singing about them. He teaches around the world, and much of the music he's encountered in other countries has found its way into his many collections of worship materials now used here.
For further information about John Bell and the Iona Community please contact The Iona Community, 4th Floor, Savoy House, 140 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, G2 3DH. Tel: 0141 332 6343.
