Cambrian Lapwing Trust

Once common on farmland across the UK, the instantly-recognisable lapwing has been declining rapidly in recent years. Pennant landowner Charles Grisedale decided in 1999 to make a small contribution to the numbers of this much-loved bird.

Grisedale made efforts against ground predators such as foxes, managed his land carefully and had some success in helping his nesting pairs to raise their chicks.

He set up the Cambrian Lapwing Recovery Trust and built hides and a car park to bring the public close to both lapwings and the other birdlife that now calls Pennant home.

One hundred and thirty species either visit or breed here, including linnet, skylarks, grey partridge, barn owl, song thrush, merlin, and golden plover.
