Laura Collins

Describing herself as a "jazz poet", Cardiff's Laura Collins brings a contemporary flavour to the jazz medium.
Her influences back that up: with the aforementioned Fitzgerald, she cites Miles Davis and Ben Folds Five.
Her apprenticeship in the music world has, like many jazz musicians, been impressive. "I learned about jazz with my mentor, the pianist Jim Barber. I studied at the Guildhall School of Music, on the jazz performance course.
"I studied with some well-known names from the jazz world such as Lee Gibson and Anita Wardell."
Her performance career began when she sang with the Jacob Karlsson Trio. Now working as a solo artist with a backing band, Laura Collins is building a following in the healthy jazz scene in her adopted city of London.
