Mental health statistics in Wales and the role of charities.

A look at the current state of the disorder in Wales ; Bill Walden-Jones from 'Hafal' explores some misconceptions held about the disease and actor Boyd Clack looks at Welsh statistics on the use of sectioning for sufferers. Walden-Jones sees a need to improve services for mental health patients and hopes that the new Mental Health(Wales)Act will reduce the number of patients sent for in-hospital treatment. He sees a need for greater inter-service coordination and hopes that the introduction of a Mental Health Code of Practise will raise standards. He looks forward to mental health patients having more rights and hopes that the Mental Health(Wales) Act will deliver this though he is careful to stress that this will necessitate an adequate level of resources.
