As sea defences are breached, police call on residents to abandon their homes.

A grim inevitability surrounded the town of Towyn in north Wales in February 1990. Gale-force winds and a high tide caused Towyn's flood defences to be breached, resulting in mass flooding.

Police and other emergency services - not always successfuly - tried to persuade residents in flooded areas to abandon their homes.
