Chris Sheffield. Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry you have to pay for your education and commuting cost. Free education and free aftercare is what we all expected. It is as much a dissapointment to me as I'm sure it is to you, but you will reap your reward when you leave education and take up a very rewarding job. Then you can buy your home, and enjoy the fruits of your labour until, that is, you reach my age and find it all taken off you because you allowed yourself to get old and infirm. Oh!! by the way, I paid tax and National Health Contributions on the great promis of Care from the cradle to the grave. Welome to the real world.

I'd sympathise more with R T Owen's comment if I had any chance of buying a house myself after student loan and commuting costs are accounted for. Residential property is an asset like any other, and why should I pay extra tax so that your children can inherit it?

My wife and I are 83 and 84 respectively, both partly disabled due to the ravages of ageing, and having discovered the Welsh Assembly Government had withdrawn "Domiciliary Care" assistance I realised that I need to provide for such care in the future. To this end I am researching the possiblity of obtaining some kind of Annuity. The only alternative appears to be, having spent all ones savings, to sell our home and contents to pay for the care we have grown to believe would be provided free. I have never been a member of any political party I am trying to provide of my self and family as always.
