Nia Roberts

Nia Roberts was born in Brecon into a theatrical family. Her parents were active members of the Brecon Little Theatre and it was here that she got her first taste of acting at the age of seven.

Her first appearance on television was just four years later as she appeared in The Farm, an episode of Jackanory.

She graduated from the university of Birmingham with a BA Hons degree in Acting.

In her first lead role, Roberts took on the role of Gaenor Rees in Paul Morrison's Solomon and Gaenor, with Ioan Gruffudd in the male lead role. The heart-wrenching story of the young lovers amidst a back drop of racism and mining problems in south Wales was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category.

In 2000 she starred in BBC mini-series Border Cafe, and a year later in football film Score. Television appearances in the mid-noughties included popular dramas such as The Bill, Casualty and Holby City.

In 2006 she appeared in film Snow Cake, directed by her future husband Marc Evans, and S4C drama Calon Gaeth. Roberts has featured more recently in TV series such as Midsomer Murders, Hotel Babylon and Collision.

She also recently starred in BBC Cymru Wales drama Crash, written by Tony Jordan, as Mary Finch - wife of consultant Mr Hill played by Mark Lewis Jones, the pair having worked together previously in Solomon and Gaenor.

Roberts features in film Patagonia, directed by Evans and also featuring Matthew Rhys, a road movie about a couple travelling through the Welsh settlements in Argentina. It showed at a number of film festivals in 2010 and is set for a UK release in early 2011.

She also has a role in film Third Star (formerly called Barafundle Bay - where it was filmed), and is currently involved with filming Guinea Pigs - a film about a drugs trial-gone-wrong - alongside fellow Welsh star Aneurin Barnard.
