About this interview
JOHN: As kids we used to come down (clears throat) and um push the old capstan round, to bring the boat back. And gradually as you got older and a little bit more useful you were then eventually taken on the boat as young crew. And it was a very relaxed and informal attitudes towards the crews in those days, um and like all the other boys around the town, we were brought up on the river most of the time so we were used to the boats, used to s- water.
