Title: Ellington Colliery Band - a new lease of life
Since the closure of Ellington Colliery, the colliery band has been looking for new premises in which to rehearse and play. Their wait is now over, with Northumbrian Water's backing and blessing. The "Northumbrian Water Ellington Colliery Band", as it will be known, now has a security through to 2008 with a cash donation of £7,500 and assistance with clothing and equipment. In this video, Bob Shotton talks about their determination that has kept the band alive. The administration and paperwork involved in seeking to keep the club alive, if not thriving, is something that Bob Shotton readily takes on. It means that the band continues to be a collection of dedicated musicians with not only a rich heritage, but also a sound future for youngsters to join in with too.
Of course, the band never stands still - they are currently looking for a B-Flat base, an E-Flat and a solo Trumbone - is there anyone out there with these skills? Read all about it | | | News coverage of the pit closure: | | | | |
