Northern StageLocation: Barras Bridge, Newcastle Essential info: Northern Stage is the largest producing theatre company in the North East of England. The company also present the best of local, national and international theatre. Following a £9 million redevelopment, the company's former home, the Newcastle Playhouse and Gulbenkian Studio, re-opened in August 2006 as Northern Stage. The venue now boasts three performance spaces, two bars and an award-winning new restaurant. The People's TheatreLocation: Stephenson Road, Heaton, Newcastle Essential info: The People's Theatre was established in 1911, and has become one of the country's leading amateur theatres. They stage up to 12 productions a year in the theatre's newly refurbished main auditorium and a further three in the smaller studio. Every show is produced entirely by the theatre's own members. Resident company Bruvvers Theatre Company. Seating up to 180 people, around all four sides of the stage, the theatre is home to a variety of drama, children's theatre, comedy, magic, cabaret and dance. Journal Tyne TheatreLocation: Westgate Road, Newcastle Essential info: A Grade I listed building the theatre has a capacity of 100 up to 1100. It plays host to an assortment of events from opera to theatre shows, comedy and pantomimes.
