Nest Box Challenge

Nest Box Challenge

All the Nest Box Challenge bird boxes were successfully handed out from the BBC Blue Bus at Concord and Newcastle. Now we're looking for pictures of the birds in your bird boxes!

The number of natural nest sites for small birds are in rapid decline due to human interference with the natural landscape.

But we can help to make a change by putting up nest boxes in our gardens to encourage birds to make their home there.

The BBC and the British Trust for Ornithology are inviting you to not only provide a nesting place for your local birds but also to help them by monitoring the box.

Bird boxes on the bus

Radio Newcastle handed out all its nest boxes from the Blue Bus parked first in Concord on 15 February and then in Newcastle's Chinatown on Sunday 18 February.

People flocked to the bus at both venues to pick up their free nest boxes and it wasn't long before they were all gone!

If you were unable to get one of these nest boxes, you can still make your own bird box by following this link to BBC Breathing Places.

And once you have your nest box the challenge is on - to take part in the survey!

Register your nest box with the BTO, then let us know if you get anything nesting in your box.

If you do get a bird nesting in your box, why not send us a photo...

And... if you'd like to be one of our special nest-box champions that we follow regularly, please get in contact!
