Why are we doing this and how can you participate?
The BBC is inviting professionals across early years health and childcare to take part in BBC CBeebies Parenting Champion Training. To sign up, simply email us an expression of interest and we’ll send you a form where you can select the date and time you want to take part in the training or find further details on our website here.
If you also wish to be updated about future training, resources and opportunities for feedback about BBC CBeebies Parenting work, with your permission we will use your email address for this. To sign up, we’ll ask you to confirm you want to receive these updates using a tick box, which is found on the same form where you select the date and time for your BBC CBeebies Parenting Champion Training.
What personal data will the BBC collect and how will we use it?
The BBC will collect and process the following personal data about you:
• Your email address
• Your profession and the number of families you work with per year
We will use this email address to send you a link so that you can sign up to the training. We will use this profession and number of families you work with per year for internal monitoring of our reach only.
If you click the tick box confirming that you want to hear more from BBC CBeebies Parenting beyond this training, we will also use your email to:
• Update you on future communications and training opportunities for your staff development
• Inform you about free resources to use in your setting or with the parents you work with
• Inform you about new BBC CBeebies Parenting content for you to use and share with the families you work with
• Request interest in providing feedback on the things BBC CBeebies Parenting offers
Who is the Data Controller?
The BBC is the “data controller” of your personal data. This means that the BBC decides what your personal data is used for, and the ways in which it is processed. For the avoidance of doubt, your personal data will be collected and processed solely for the purposes set out in this privacy notice. As the data controller, the BBC has the responsibility to comply, and to demonstrate compliance with, data protection law.
Lawful basis for processing your personal data
Our legal basis on which the BBC processes your personal data is the performance of its public task. The BBC’s role is to act in the public interest and to serve all audiences with content which informs, educates, and entertains. This is consistent with the BBC’s wider public purposes under its Royal Charter, which states that the BBC, “should provide specialist educational content to help support learning for children and teenagers across the United Kingdom. It should encourage people to explore new subjects and participate in new activities through partnerships with educational, sporting and cultural institutions.”
If you sign up to the BBC CBeebies Parenting Mailing list, the lawful basis on which we will process your personal data is consent. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link in our emails.
Sharing your personal data
The BBC works with our approved third-party providers who help us to provide some of our services. These partners only use your personal data on behalf of the BBC and not independently of the BBC.
We may also share personal data with a third party where required or permitted by law.
Retaining your personal data
If you do not sign up to the mailing list, we will keep your personal data until you have attended the training session and we have sent the follow-up slides the next day. We will then delete your personal data.
If you sign up to our mailing list, we will keep your personal data on an ongoing basis until you unsubscribe. We will occasionally email you to reconfirm that you want to receive these emails. If you do not reconfirm we will remove you from the mailing list.
Your personal data will be stored in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA).
Your rights and more information
You have rights under data protection law:
• You can request a copy of the personal data the BBC stores about you .
• You have the right to request that we rectify any inaccurate or incomplete personal data that we hold about you.
• You have the right to ask for the personal data we collect about you to be deleted, however there are limitations and exceptions to this right which may entitle the BBC to refuse your request.
• In certain circumstances you have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data, or to object to the processing of your personal data.
• You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal data to you or to another organisation, in certain circumstances.
