Luke Ashmead With very little gardening knowledge and a real enthusiasm for learning I suppose it was a foregone conclusion that the powers that be at the BBC would ask me to do this show!
I am the sort of person who has lots of great plans for his garden but has never had the knowledge or inclination to act on it. I'm really hoping that over the next 12 months I can transform my own garden into something more interesting and enjoyable not just for me but for my family as well. |
Jason Jason grew up in Beeston, Nr. Sandy, and at an early age showed an interest in everything horticultural.
Leaving school with C.S.E. qualifications, Jason decided to pursue a career in Horticulture & was taken on as a YTS trainee at the Bickerdikes Garden Centre. After passing his City & Guild's in Horticulture he was taken on full time by Bill Bickeredike and under the guidance of Keith Gaylor Jason went from strength to strength. After 2 years at Bickerdike's Garden Centre Jason took his third year in City & Guild's at Shuttleworth College at Old Warden, Biggleswade, which he passed with Distinction. Jason spent the next nine years at Leighton Buzzard Garden Centre followed by a move to J.van Vliet in Enfield but found the unsociable hours a strain on his private life and decided with some backing to go self-employed and WEEDBUSTERS was born...
In his spare time Jason enjoys writing poetry and has had several poems published both sides of the Atlantic. Jason is also a member of Leighton Buzzard Drama Group. Jason enjoys listening to rock and alternative music. When he can find the time he can be found curled up in a good book, anything from fact through to fiction. He also likes to collect old gardening books. |
Janet Hi! I'm fortunate to live in a beautiful part of Bedfordshire. I am married with two children, a daughter aged six and a son aged four, who both attend the local school.
We have lived in our cottage for three years now and have spent a couple of years 'doing up' the house so haven't had much time to do anything to the garden which is largely lawn at the moment. I am really looking forward to designing and developing the garden over the coming year. We did clear an area of lawn for vegetable growing two years ago as we are both keen on producing our own food. The children also enjoy helping plant the seeds and harvesting the vegetables - especially the potatoes. It also helps them to learn about how plants grow.
We keep a variety of chickens, a small number of sheep and a pig which we really enjoy. I am hoping to develop a play area for the children, a quiet seating area and a pergola to grow climbing roses and plants up and to improve the lawn which really needs some help at the moment! |
