    Nathan Tyson
Wycombe's Nathan Tyson (for how long)

    Football: 29 October 2005

All the news and interviews from the matches involving Luton, Watford, MK Dons, Wycombe and Stevenage.

    Championship

    Coventry City 1-0 Luton Town

A Luton side, disrupted by illness and injury, struggled to find their shape as Coventry had seemed to have done their homework on the Hatters.

The Sky Blues were quicker to the ball in more difficult positions and prevented Luton from imposing their style of flowing football.

Striker Steve Howard couldn't convert Luton's best chance inside ten minutes, screwing the ball wide of the post with the goal gaping.

The decisive moment came within 90 seconds of the restart when James Scowcroft crossed from the right and Adebola couldn't miss with a powerful header in front of the goal.

City bossed the game without ever threatening to extend their lead and with two defensive substitutions proving necessary, the Hatters couldn't throw everything they would have liked at the Coventry defence in the closing stages.

Leaders Sheffied United are up at Bramell Lane next and there is some serious thinking for Luton to do before next Tuesday.

After the match the Luton manager Mike Newell expressed his disappointment at the result.

"It is always disappointing when you get beat and although we did lose I don't think that we were second best."

"It was a poor first half and we didn't start the game well but we certainly had the better of the second half, we're just struggling to put the ball in the net."

    Goals

    Coventry: Adebola 47.

Att: 22,228 Ref: M Thorpe (Suffolk).

    Watford 3-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Lottery ticket sales were up in Watford on Saturday night, the luck was with the Hornets who could've been down four or five down at half time, but then found themselves three-up in a classic game of two halves.

The Watford players to a man should hand their win bonuses to goalkeeper Ben Foster who kept them in the game in that first period.

His heroics, combined with some very poor finishing, meant that it was goal-less at half time.

Wolves Leon Clarke was particularly guilty and Kenny Miller hit the post. And then three goals in ten second half minutes for Watford.

Firstly, DeMerit headed Young's corner, DeMerit and Young set up King and then Devlin converted another Young corner.

South Korean sub, Seol, pulled one back but Watford up to fourth and with luck like this anything's possible.

The Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd was pleased with his sides performance.

"There was two good things about the first half, our opening 15 minutes and then when the referee blew for half time when we were still 0-0."

"They were the best team we have played, we've played a few teams this year but they were the best footballing team we have played so far."

"But we managed to dig in and come through in the second half and make sure that we got the result."

    Goals

    Watford: DeMerit 69, King 77, Devlin 80.

    Wolves: Seol 90.

Att: 14,561 Ref: C Webster (Tyne & Wear).

    League One

    MK Dons 1-1 Rotherham United

The Dons recorded their ninth draw in League One and it was only their second half performance that meant that Rotherham will go back to Yorkshire without all three points.

Saying that, had Izale McLeod taken sight of his clear cut chances, the home side would have won this.

Rotherham scored the opener, 23 minutes into the first half, with a long throw from Barker into the 18 yard area. The Dons defence didn't deal with it and it was midfielder, Andy Monkhouse, who managed to poke the ball in.

The home team were better after the break, and to be honest they couldn't have been much worse. They signalled their intent early in the second half, McLeod inches wide of the Rotherham post.

Glorious chances followed for McLeod, but it was Malvin Kamara who grabbed the equaliser ten minutes from time. A good through ball from McLeod and Kamara finished well with the outside of his right boot.

It's another point for the Dons, but perhaps again, it should have been more.

Danny Wilson the MK Dons manager wasn't pleased with his sides first half performance.

"The first 45 minutes was not a very pretty one from my point of viewI didn't think at all that we effected the game what so ever."

"I was very disappointed in the attitude and enthusiasm we didn't show and that was my biggest concern."

"But second half I think it was a totally different story and we got at them and put them on the back foot but unfortunately we missed chances again."

    Goals

    MK Dons: Kamara 80.

    Rotherham: Monkhouse 24.

Att: 5,096. Ref: A Woolmer (Northamptonshire).

    League Two

    Wycombe Wanderers 2-2 Peterborough United

Another superb advert for league two which looked like it could have ended the Wonderers unbeaten run, but they showed a side of their game that we were yet to see.

The character it took to come back from two down will encourage John Gorman that they can scrap when required.

The Chair Boys found themselves two down at half time following two strikers' goals.

First Danny Crow took advantage of a slow Wanderers defence to finish from 20 yards, then just five minutes later Benjamin made it two with a near post effort.

The home side were always going to have chances in the second half, but it took just after the hour mark to produce their fight back.

Johnson scored his third of the season following a corner and after that the players believed that they could get something from the match.

Both left-footed and left wing-back, Clint Easton scored from 25 yards with his right foot to keep the unbeaten run going, but only just.

John Gorman, the Wycombe manager was upbeat with the result.

"It was a great result in the end, it could have been a bad day for us in the end but it wasn't and it ended up being a good day."

"We turned it round and could have won in the end, the fans were magnificent and it was great to hear them at the end getting behind there team."

    Goals

    Wycombe: Johnson 74, Easton 80.

    Peterborough: Crow 33, Benjamin 38.

Att: 5,214 Ref: M Fletcher (Worcestershire).

    Conference

    Gravesend 0-2 Stevenage Borough

Goals from Jon Nurse and George Boyd secured 10-man Stevenage a 2-0 win at Gravesend to keep them in touch with the leading pack in the Conference.

Striker Nurse headed home in the third minute and midfielder Boyd struck his sixth goal of the season midway through the second half to secure a third away win for Graham Westley's side, who had striker Dino Maamria sent off late on for a second bookable offence.

Boyd supplied the cross for Nurse's opener, while the latter returned the favour for the game-clinching second in the 71st minute.

Nurse crossed from the left and Boyd lashed the ball into the roof of the net from 12 yards.

But Gravesend created chances of their own. Manny Omoyinmi and Andy Drury both had first-half shots tipped around the post by Stevenage goalkeeper Alan Julian, while Jimmy Jackson and Drury again, with a header, went close for the home side in the second half.

Graham Westley the Boro manager was delighted with his sides professional approach to the game.

"It was nice and disciplined, nice and professional, well organised and we counter-attacked very well with two great goals on the break."

"We felt before the game that with the number of changes they had made and with the new boy coming in there was going to be some disorganisation and that we could take advantage."

    Goals

    Stevenage: Nurse 3, Boyd 71.

Att: 1,372 Ref: R East (Wilton).
