    Coventry 3-1 Watford

The lights go out for The Hornets as the Sky Blues secure their second league win of the season.

    Coventry City v Watford: Championship
    Coventry City 3Watford 1
    Adebola 2
    Flood 20
    McSheffrey 86
    Young 51
    Official(s): Phil Joslin (Newark)
    Attendance: 16,978

Watford, like the floodlights at the new Ricoh Arena, took a while to get going and by the time they took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second period, the damage had been done.

    Simon Oxley reports.

The first half played in pouring rain and with a brief stoppage when the lights embarrassingly failed, had belonged to the home side from only the second minute when Hornets keepers Ben Foster dropped the ball and Adebola snapped up the chance.

Milo Flood made it 2-0 and Richard Duffy headed against the bar with Watford all at sea, but with Coventry missing Adebola after the break, and Watford introducing Gavin Mahon it was a different game.

Ashley Young pulled one back with a fantastic strike, but they couldn't go on to find an equaliser. Gary McSheffrey netted on the break to seal the points for the home side.

Seven players, four from Watford, were booked. Ex Hornets skipper Robert Page lucky to stay on the pitch for foul on Young in a sometimes bad tempered affair, but Watford face Leeds on Saturday, needing to channel their aggression in the right areas.

JPyper, yes a great start for us both but just remember that QPR did the same last year (in their first season)and finished well short of the playoffs. I have two wishes for my club, firstly that we improve considerably on last season's league form - my hopes are higher now that we will - and secondly that we don't play Luton at Cardiff in May. What a nightmare scenario and I'm not talking about the result!

With the lights at Coventry's new stadium taking a while to get going, when Watford come to Kenilworth Road in the New Year, hope they dont come out with excuses like that when we beat thenm far and square. It was good to see a former Hatters Loanee 'McSheffery' coming up with the goods!! Here's to the meeting on 2nd January 2006 !! PS - 3 point lead now.
