Championship CREWE 0-0 WATFORD The Hornets moved back above Luton into third place after a goalless draw at Gresty Road. Simon Oxley reports. Watford were good value for the point. A half-time re-shuffle was the key with the over-awed debutant Junior Osborne replaced, with the fit again Gavin Mahon adding more steel in midfield. | | Simon Oxley reports. |
Crewe had the better of the first half with midfielder Gary Roberts hitting the post, but the Hornets were on top after the break reaching double fingures in corners, but unfortunately unable to turn any of them into goals. The home keeper Ross Turnbull saved well from Clarke Carlisle and from Jordan Stewart and loanee Trevor Benjamin went close on a number of occasions, but given the injuries and the makeshift look to the side, Watford were happy enough with a point, which moved them back into third place. Luke Ashmead reports. Two penalties in two first half minutes got the scoring underway at Bloomfield Road. The first came on 16 minutes when Rizzo brought down Stephen Grayson and Blackpool captain Stephen Clarke converted past Baker. The response came instantly when McCleod was fouled by Butler, and the score was level when Rizzo scored left-footed past Pogliacomi. The Dons took the lead on 34 minutes in the first half. The impressive debutant Stephen Quinn made a lovely flick to Wade Small, whose half volley nearly broke the back of the net and the Dons went in at the break 2-1 up. Blackpool got their equaliser four minutes into the second half. A left foot cross from Jamie Burns was put into the back of the net courtesy of an own goal from Pablo Mills. The Dons then had countless chances before Jamie Burns picked up a loose ball in the box and calmly scored past Baker. Danny Wilson's side continue to squander chances - McCleod had a golden opportunity one on one with six minutes left but his shot was poor. Still no win and no points to boot. Ian Stringer reports. The unbeaten League run continues for Wycombe after a first half which should have sealed it, but in the end they were holding on for all three points. Returning from two games away from first team action Kevin Betsy showed no after effects from the dead leg that kept the midfielder out. He scored within 60 seconds when he finished in the six yard area after a cross from Tommy Mooney. His second and third came after excellent work from Matt Bloomfield, leaving Betsy through to seal his hat trick within 42 minutes. Mansfield came back into it in the second half through a penalty, Danny Senda with the foul and Richard Barker tucking it away. It was 3-2 after Simon Brown followed up a long shot, meaning a tight last 15 minutes. The post was hit and the line was cleared but Wycombe held on. The Chairboys proved today that they don't need to rely on Nathan Tyson for goals. A good job really as John Gorman confessed afterwards that he will leave in January. Stevenage were always second best and Jon Nurse's second-half consolation strike was of little significance as Justin Gregory was sent-off for the visitors. Twiss made no mistake from close range, tucking the ball into the bottom corner of Alan Julian's net with his right foot. The home side doubled their lead midway through the first half with a well crafted goal as Curtis carved out an opening down the left flank and passed to Hunter, who picked his spot and drove the ball into the corner. The result was all but wrapped up five minutes before half-time when Twiss turned provider for Thompson, who capped a superb half of attacking football with a low, driven finish from close range. The visitors upped their game after the break and on the hour mark, Dino Maamria landed the ball at the feet of Nurse, who whipped a shot into the top corner for 3-1. However, the comeback was dealt a significant blow when Gregory was handed his second booking for a foul on Carlton and left Boro with 10 men, before Curtis completed the rout with an emphatic finish from a Twiss cross.
