    Unsigned commercial soul funk band Common Ground hail from Milton Keynes - find out if you dig them!


    Common Ground describe themselves as playing mainly original material with some soul, catchy lyrics, smooth grooves and strong melodies,a dding: "We are influenced more by styles than musicians."

    Common Ground are: Derek - Vocals, Liezel - Backing vocals, Tania - Backing vocals, Laurent - Guitar, Rob - keyboards, Chris - Drums and Dan - Bass.

    Q. How would you describe your style of music?

    A. Commercial Soul/Funk

    Q. What would you say are your musical influences?

    A. The best from all genres

    Q. How did the band form?

     A.The band have been together 5 yrs. We met via an audition for another band

    Q. What bands had you all been in previously?

    A. Optic pearl, Massive Attack, Respect, Tin Roof

    Q. What’s your favourite song on your current album and why? (all band members can have different tracks as their favourite!)

    A. Don’t Understand. It was the first track the band had written together.

    Q. What type of gig do you most like to play and why?

    A. Festivals are the best, large and outdoors, because we are a big entertaining live band.

    Q. What’s your most memorable gig and why?

    A. Supporting the Average White Band at the Stables because they are heroes for some of us.

    Q. What’s your fan base like? What group of people would you say you appealed to most?

    A. A broad range but mostly 20-30yrs old

    Q. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever done/sent to you?

    A. Cried for a home made Common Ground T-shirt and wore it at a gig!

    Q. Name one unusual fact about each of you.

    A. Laurent is French, Tania is preggers, Lee is South African, and Danny’s handsome. Derek is cool, DJ looks tired, Matt is mad, and Chris is moody.

    Q. If you could record a collaboration with ANYONE - who would it be and why?

    A. Marvin Gaye, a genius and because it’s too late, he’s gone.

    Q. What’s the band’s ultimate ambition or what’s your dream?

    A. To have recognition for writing good pop tunes and a bit of cash to help kit out the band a bit better.

    I saw this band at the big balloon festival, they were really good. I think they could go far!
