Q: How would you describe your style of music? A: Upbeat acoustic pop/rock. Q: What would you say are your musical influences? A: Elvis v the Beatles, ACDC v Crowded House Q: How did the band form? A: Karim Fanous, Pete Duddles and Bongo Bob met at University of Warwick. They had a few forays into music either in other bands or as the current line up, until finally getting their act together in early 2001 promoting a no longer available demo CD of 11 songs, that Karim and Pete recorded in an exhausting day and a half. Q: What bands had you all been in previously? A: Pete and Bongo were members of a band at University called Sporadic Tiff (no longer together) Pete also played with another guy in an acoustic duo doing covers at Uni. Q: What’s your favourite song on your current album and why? A: Bongo Bob likes Drama Queen best as his drumming is really crucial to the song (plus he's a bit of a gay icon…) This is the song that goes down best live and gets everybody dancing. For some reason all the girls love it, even though its lyrics slag off a certain type of female…. Q: What type of gig do you most like to play and why? A: Pubs like the Horn Reborn in St Albans and the Spice of Life in London are really cool cos everybody likes them and there's always a great atmosphere (even if it is a bit smokey for the singers..) However we recently played an arts centre which felt very professional and the sound was of excellent quality so we could play well and choose a broader set-list that didn’t rely on the up-tempo numbers to come across effectively. We go down quite well at Wembley Arena! Q: What’s your most memorable gig and why? A: We've had quite a few…. Playing Tower Records in Dublin was cool, even if it was only to three people. Then the opposite was playing at the Rock Garden to the biggest crowd it had ever had - 150. We've played two University Balls which have been excellent fun cos we get to do some covers and go a bit crazy. I really enjoyed playing the Borderline cos my heroes Crowded House have played there. Q: What’s your fan base like? What group of people would you say you appealed to most? A: This is difficult to answer, I think we appeal to young and old really, I don’t think there is a specific demographic of people (which is a real cop out I know) as we get all sorts to our gigs. The songs are the key, people like the songs and they put a smile on your face and you can hum them all the way home which I don’t think many bands on the circuit do at the moment. Q: What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever done / sent to you? A: We had a bra on stage at the Hope and Anchor once! Q: Name one unusual fact about each of you. A: Karim - has a rather large hat collection. Bongo Bob - will be DOCTOR Bongo soon when he finishes his PhD. Pete - teaches Physics at a all girls secondary school. Q: If you could record a collaboration with ANYONE - who would it be and why? A: Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder, you'd get the best lyrics, the best soul and the best pop. Q: What’s the band’s ultimate ambition.? What’s your dream? A: To have our songs exposed to as many people as possible, as we believe they would be very well received. To record all the songs in Pete and Karim's heads, so that they will be around forever. |
