Why are we doing this and how can you participate?

The BBC is looking for young people aged 11-18 who want to report on a story that is important to their lives or the world around them, as part of the BBC Young Reporter Competition 2024.

The theme is ‘Me and My World’. Entrants need to submit an outline of a story idea using this theme. This can be either a written submission, or a recorded audio or video clip of no more than three (3) minutes duration.

The BBC will collect the personal data via an online platform used by the BBC.

Stories will be shortlisted in two different age groups: 11-15 year olds and 16-18 year olds. All applicants for the BBC Young Reporter Competition must provide their parents/guardians contact details, so that their permission for entry can be confirmed.

The most original and interesting stories will be shortlisted and judged by presenters, reporters, senior editors and producers to be considered both on a regional and national level. The winning entrants will be broadcast by the BBC on TV, radio and/or online.

If we broadcast your story/contribution, this may include it being available online and/or on demand, and your contribution may be used again in a future broadcast. It may also include use on the BBC’s social media channels.
