Our General Showcase

Check out some wonderful Ten Pieces creative responses:

This Year 5 class were inspired to compose their own piece of 'Earth' music as a class over half a term. The piece opens with synthesised pitches to set an atmosphere of 'space', followed by a shimmery cascade of spinning sounds. An introduction to a three note motif on the glockenspiel signals a section of improvised motifs shared between pitched instruments. As this builds to a peak, the uniqueness of life on Earth starts to emerge - firstly using body percussion for a rainstorm, and then followed by life through chattering voices and animal calls. The disorganised sounds draw into a single vocalised note enabling the piece to draw to a close with a vocal three note motif, reminiscent of Hans Zimmer's theme.

This Year 5 class have worked over a half term on their own class composition, inspired by Hans Zimmer's 'Earth'. The piece has a shimmering introduction, with a solo synthesised line to start. This leads into a three note motif improvisation that then cascades between different pitched percussion instruments. A middle section explores soundscapes, introducing the sounds of water, birdsong, animal footsteps, wind and human voices. The piece finishes with a sustained vocal note that rises and briefly falls back to the synthesised note to finish.

"During Lockdown, our ensembles have been meeting online every week, to chat and have play alongs. We were inspired to produce this together, using the Ten Pieces parts for Habanera. This is our transition orchestra and wind band, and one of our team put this in to the video so that we could use it for our Virtually Brilliant online Music Festival - Thank you for the Music!"
