Scotland's Home Front

Scotland's Home Front is a 3-part fictional audio drama about two children, Tommy and Lizzie, and their families during WW2, at the time of the Clydebank Blitz in 1941.

The drama explores a range of issues which affected communities during the war including evacuation, rationing, separation, communications and wartime injuries, grief and loss. We find out about the important role that women played during the war such as working in munitions factories or as nurses. The story also features some of the music of the time, and the 'Make Do and Mend' approach to material possessions.

The families try to keep their spirits up and ‘do their bit’ while Tommy and Lizzie take comfort from their grandad’s homing pigeon ‘Daisy’ who plays a special part in the story.
