PSHE KS2: Connect – Carnival Connect with Evie Pickerill

CBeebies presenter Evie Pickerill transforms the classroom into a carnival celebration where pupils are encouraged to join in with a mix of fun dance moves, whilst also thinking about something worth celebrating in their own lives.

This celebration of togetherness and achievement is based on movements which encourage feelings of strength, confidence and staying safe.

This video reminds pupils that we should celebrate and share all our achievements in life, no matter how big or small they may be.

Feeling connected to the people and places around us is a fundamental part of what it means to be human.

Enrichment activities

  1. Celebrate My Achievements
  • Children list three things they are proud of or have achieved recently (e.g., learning something new, helping someone, or mastering a skill).
  • They can add a drawing next to each achievement to illustrate what they’re celebrating.
  1. "We Are All Worth Celebrating" Poster
  • Children create colourful posters with the phrase “We Are All Worth Celebrating” and decorate them with symbols of their personal accomplishments (e.g., stars, ribbons, trophies).
  • They can add fun elements from a carnival, like balloons or confetti.
  1. Carnival Dance Party
  • Play some fun carnival or celebration music and let the children freestyle to the rhythm. Encourage them to add their own special moves and celebrate in their own unique way.
  • Offer a challenge: "Can you add a special twist to the carnival twist?"
  1. "We Are Worth Celebrating" Chant
  • Lead a chant to reinforce the idea of self-celebration:
    • Teacher: "When we dance together, we feel…"
    • Children: "Happy!"
    • Teacher: "When we celebrate each other, we feel…"
    • Children: "Proud!"
    • Finish by chanting: "We are all worth celebrating!"
