Shh! Is that someone coming?
LENNOX: Even up here we’re not safe.
ROSS: And now Macduff has disappeared.
LENNOX: Not disappeared. Fled to England.
ROSS: Why?
LENNOX: He’s gone to join Malcolm. They are going to raise an army to come up hereand save us from Macbeth.
ROSS: Does Macbeth know?
LENNOX: Yes – and is planning his revenge on Macduff.
ROSS: God help Macduff.
LENNOX: God help all of us.
ROSS: Come on. Let us leave this place - while we can.

MACBETH: I want to know more of the future. Will you tell me? I need answers.
SISTER 1: Speak, Macbeth.
SISTER 2: Demand.
SISTER 3: We’ll answer.
MACBETH: First question. Tell me -
ALL SISTERS: No need to ask the questions. We know your thoughts.
SISTER 1: Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware Macduff!
MACBETH: I knew it. Macduff is dangerous…
SISTER 2: Be bloody, bold and resolute! No man who’s ever been born to a woman canharm you!

MACBETH: Don’t be afraid, Lennox. Do you see them?
LENNOX: See who, my lord?
MACBETH: The Weird Sisters of course. But they’ve gone! They didn’t answer –
LENNOX: Are you not well, my lord?
MACBETH: More than well, Lennox! Now, what news?
LENNOX: Messengers say Macduff has raised an army in England, my lord. And is onhis way.
MACBETH: Traitor! He’ll pay for this. I’ll take his castle. Kill his wife, his children, hisfamily. Come!

Ross and Lennox meet on the walls of Dunsinane and determine to leave Macbeth's side in favour of Malcolm and Macduff.
Macbeth returns to the Weird Sisters, seeking reassurance. They tell him to 'beware Macduff', but that he cannot be harmed 'by any man born of a woman' and that he will be safe until 'Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane.' Macbeth is relieved, believing himself to be safe.
Lennox arrives with news that Macduff is raising an army in England. Macbeth vows to punish Macduff by killing his wife and family.
