Physical Education GCSE: How important is endurance in climbing?

GB climber Molly Thompson-Smith explains the need for muscular endurance to be a champion in her sport.

We join Molly Thompson-Smith at a training session, where she describes the world of climbing, her journey so far in the sport and how important pre-planning a route is.

Molly and her coach also explain the key role both mental and physical preparation plays during training and competition.

Students could evaluate the need for a positive attitude in sport.

They could also discuss the components of fitness and training required in climbing, especially muscular endurance, and look at how this is mirrored in other outdoor adventure activities.

They can practise planning and setting goals using visualisation.

This can also form a basis to discuss positive role models in sport and the drive to leave a sporting legacy for others.
