Happa talks through his process as he builds up the track. Starting with a beat, he creates a set of loops out of different sampled instruments, whilst modifying their pitch and speed and adding different effects to change their overall timbre. He shows how, through experimenting with sounds and techniques, you can develop a distinctive sound of your own that can be heard clearly in the tracks you make.
Teacher Notes
Use music software or hardware to create a piece of music. Students could be provided with optional starting points such as a bass line, chord progression or note pattern. Compositions could use MIDI instruments and possibly have vocals recorded on top, if the resources are available.
