1. Monster Mash - Bobby Picket
Released: 1962
What's it about: Inspired by popular music of the early 1960s, Monster Mash tells the story of a monster who was risen from the dead and created a new dance.
2. This is Halloween - The Nightmare Before Christmas
Released: 1993
What's it about: The song, which is the opening piece in Tim Burton's live-stock animation film The Nightmare Before Christmas, includes all of the terrifying characters associated with the holiday but in a fun and toe-tapping manner.
3. Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr
Released: 1984
What's it about: From the 1984 original Ghostbusters film, this blockbuster movie-theme is instantly recognisable and there shouldn't be a Halloween party without it being played!
4. In the Hall of the Mountain King - Edvard Grieg
Released: 1875
What's it about: Grieg wrote the music to the stage-play Peer Gynt, dramatised by Henrik Ibsen.
This particular section from the production is the moment Peer enters the troll-king's hall and is surrounded by trolls, gnomes and goblins.

Released: 2002
What's it about: The Scooby-Doo TV theme has been sung and played in many different ways over its 50-year broadcast, but Simple Plan's version is full of energy, which is perfect for a kids party.
7. Hedwig's Theme - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Released: 2001
What's it about: The melody is first played on a celesta and immediately indicates that the film is filled with magic and the mystical.
All of the Harry Potter film scores are composed by John Williams, whose work includes film franchises Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and Star Wars.
8. Danse Macabre - Camille Saint-Saëns
Released: 1874
What's it about: Saint-Saëns translated the French folktale of Death raising the dead into an orchestral account.
He thought of all of the elements of the story, including the church bell-chimes, the dancing spirits and call of the morning rooster.
9. Men in Black - Will Smith
Released: 1997
What's it about: Not only does Will Smith play the lead role in the film but he also writes and sings the film's theme tune.
The song samples the RnB hit Forget Me Nots from 1982 and mentions the out of world aliens that the fictional agency encounter.
10. The Addams Family - film soundtrack
Released: 1991
What's it about: The family who you wouldn't want to live next to returned to screens in 1991 but now on the big screen.
As well as the popular characters the film retained the infamous harpsichord and finger snap introduction.

What's it about: Although not a spooky song, Ghost tells the story of letting either a person or an aspect of life impacting your sleep.
It's a song that will uplift the mood at a Halloween party.
12. Ghost Town - The Specials
Released: 1981
What's it about: Created out of the imbalance of wealth in the late 1970s, The Specials wrote this two-tone chart hit that features reggae dub, horror chromaticism and ghoulish shrieking.
13. Witch Doctor - Alvin & The Chipmunks
Released: 2007
What's it about: There have been a few versions of this song but the way that Alvin, Simon and Theodore sing fits suitably with children.
14. Goosebumps TV theme
Released: 1995
What's it about: Like the books, the Goosebumps TV series was written for the teen horror audience and it was certainly made the teens of the 90s jump.
Although the opening theme doesn't have lyrics to sing to, the music includes all of the trademark horror features, such as pizzicato strings and the devil's interval.
