Things weren’t looking good for Icarus and his dad. The two of them were imprisoned in a massive labyrinth with a half-man/half-cow monster (it was scarier than it sounds), at the hands of the powerful King Minos.
With the threat of being eaten by this creature (or the ‘Minotaur’ as he was known), they were both kind of eager to escape. So with some crafty thinking and some very crafty hands, Icarus’ dad made them both a pair of wings each out of wax and feathers so that they could fly to safety.
Before they took off, (being the ever caring dad that he is) Daddy Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sea or too close to the Sun.
“There are things in the real world just as dangerous as the Minotaur, you know.” He (quite possibly) said.
With these words, they both took off and flew from the island towards freedom.
However, caught up in the amazing feeling of flying, Icarus forgot his father’s words and soared higher and higher until… yep, you’ve guessed it. The sun melted those crafty wings of his and Icarus fell into the sea below to his death, much to his Dad’s horror.
So… a nice story then.
