Beat Bad Breath

Check back here soon to view a handy vid on how to keep your laughing gear as clean as a whistle
People should hear you talk, but they shouldn't smell you talk. Your chat can be smoother than Ian Wright's head but if your breath stinks, everything is ruined. Don't let it happen to you…
What is bad breath?
Halitosis, to give dog breath its proper name, is caused by smelly bacteria called plaque that builds up in your mouth, often because it's attached to old bits of food stuck between your teeth. Other possible causes include tooth decay, gum disease, illness, a dry mouth, smoking and pongy foods like onion and garlic. Or if you eat poo.
Bear in mind you'd have to be some kind of 90%-mint superperson to avoid getting bad breath at some point, but normally it's preventable.
How do I know if I've got it?
That's the problem, you won't. Due to inconsiderate positioning by whoever invented the face, it's impossible to smell your own breath (breathing into your hand doesn't work either).
You can buy breath-testing gadgets. But the most reliable bet is just asking someone - like your mum or a trusted mate. It may be a bit embarrassing, but it's better destroying them with your killer breath than someone you actually fancy.
How can I prevent it?
Mouthwashes and minty products are fine, but don't rely on them. Brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing before bedtime is more effective than any gum. Brushing your tongue can also help. Regular dental check-ups will root out potentially stinky mouth problems. And use common sense: like not gobbling down whole garlic cloves before hot dates.
