Think DAZ below has touched on the right bum note as regards to the ruination of fun live gigs where you could express your free spirit and generally have fun at a gig! The over bearing Nanny state with its obsession with rules and being Politically correct has over spilled into public theatres ruining the experience. Live rock/Pop gigs were never meant to be watched from a sitting position although people should have the choice the audience were meant to feel part of it and dance. I for one wont use the place anymore and will travel instead. CALLEN [The Voice]

It's nice to see that they have finally up-dated the theatre, but at what expense to the Ipswich tax payer? Does this mean that theatre tickets are going to increase too? As Daz said, it'll be a shame that people will no longer be able to stand for concerts now.Good luck to the theatre though, let's hope that after all this money has been spent more people will visit the venue and justify the money spent.

Yes very lovely. But the news that O'Donell is to be the first singer to grace the stage pretty much sums it up. I was maybe hoping for a hark back to the days when you never had enough money to see ALL the bands you wanted to at The Gaumont. Yes there really were that many great bands who played there. The Clash, The Stranglers, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Stiff Little Fingers. Even our own Adicts played on that lovely stage. You could smoke, you could drink, you could (shock horror) stand up at the front, ribs being crushed by the stage, and go mental to the biggest bands in the country without an over-zealous security man getting all flustered.Ah well...a man can dream. So I'm guessing that the real music lovers will still have to get on a train to go to Colchester, Norwich, or London to see their favourite bands. Shame.
