Just found a grass snake sunbathing on my front door step in Kempston. Must be the hot weather. Very excited have never seen a real snake so close before in the wild. Thank you for the website as I had no idea what it was and was worried it was an escaped poisonous pet!! It is beautiful. The RSPCA phone line was very helpful too.

I found a little dark green lizard under a piece of concrete in my dank garden in finsburry park of all places- about 6cm long and dark green. I was quite pleased. Should I report it to anyone? Seems like there must be plenty of them around if they're showing up in the big city.

I live in Cobham Surrey and my garden backs onto fields. We have grass snakes living in our compost heap. Last night my next door neighbour came round - she was feeding her baby and a snake dropped out of the chimney into the fireplace. I couldn't find it but the next morning it was on her front door step. It was a baby grass snake and although I would never say anything to her I wonder if there is a snakes nest somewhere in her house. Do you think that is possible?

I live in stowmarket suffolk and was walking with my baby to combs wood and noticed a snake in a small stream i have been on the internet to check what species it was and it turned out to be a grass snake i wasnt sure because it was quite big didnt relise they get that big,we also saw a smaller one around about 2 to 3ft at barham near needham market suffolk it was eating a tad pole and on the same day we saw one swimming across the lake.there has been mentioned in our road that they have been spotted in gardens it must be due to the hot weather.
