The Boer War was coming to an end and in the USA Henry Ford was setting up his first factory to make those new fangled motor cars. Listen to a report from Ruby's birthday celebrations: Help playing audio/video Ruby, who lives at Aldringham Court near Aldeburgh, marked the major milestone of her 105th birthday with the help of fellow residents, staff, friends and family on the 31st October 2007. She was also joined by some children from Coldfair Green County Primary School in Knodishall. They made cards for her and sang Happy Birthday. One said: "She doesn't look her age - she just keeps smiling and laughing." HerstoryRuby started her life in Suffolk, but then worked as a cook in London during the Second World War. Tragically, her first husband and young son were killed by a V2 rocket. Ruby herself was dug out of the rubble after being found by sniffer dogs. She said: "It was very sad but the Lord has looked after me and has helped me to live to such a ripe age.'' Ruby also enjoys the odd glass of sherry and was still looking after herself in her own home just a few years ago. Her friends believe she is the second oldest person living in Suffolk. ![]() Ruby Baldry with Coldfair Green pupils The activities co-ordinator for Aldringham Court, Sue Lander, said: "I am so pleased to mark the occasion with Mrs Baldry. She lived on her own until she was 101 and takes things very much in her stride. She is a remarkable lady." Aldringham Court is run by Healthcare Homes.
