Another hazy summer

Eastern Haze is back at Somerleyton Hall near Lowestoft for a 3-day music festival in July. Last year's event was headlined by Hawkwind, Senser and Eat Static and it attracted 5,000 fans. They're hoping for 10,000 fans over 20-22 July 2007.

The main stage will have The Blockheads (with Never Mind The Buzzcocks' Phil Jupitus singing instead of the late Ian Dury) headlining on Friday night, crusty favourites Ozric Tentacles on Saturday and the Bootleg Beatles on Sunday night. The tribute band will be commemorating the 40th anniversary of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band with a brass and string section.

There'll be a total of eight stages in the grounds of the Somerleyton Hall estate, but Hazy Promotions' Seb Fosdal says they're not competing with the multi-stage Latitude Festival which takes place the weekend before: "We had so many rave reviews after last year's event. Our philosophy is to make the event as inclusive as possible with something for everyone.

"It's a different event from Latitude and we try and keep our prices affordable for people who maybe can't afford to go to Glastonbury."

Tickets are £65 for adults, £45 for 14-17 year olds and accompanied children under the age of 14 get in free.

The owner of Somerleyton Hall is Hugh Crossley: "It's amazing how well it worked so well in such a short space of time last year. The licensing we're going for is for a capacity of 20,000, but I think realistically we're looking to build up to 10,000 people."

The Levellers

The other stages include acoustic (featuring the Levellers on Saturday and Nick Harper on Sunday), the Next Stage, the Club Stage, the Psy Trance Stage and reggae, hip hop and drum & bass stages. There is also a children's area, a green area and a holistic area.

Seb Fosdal says they're trying to be environmentally friendly: "All our main power on site comes from bio-diesel generators and we aim to recycle as much of our waste as possible. We feel it is part of our responsibility to make the environmental impact of this event as small as possible."

The festival organisers say they aim to promote local talent and Suffolk bands including The Future Kings Of England and Llewelyn are on the bill.
