Foster Factor: Best Local Albums of 2006

It's that time of year as BBC Radio Suffolk presenter and producer Stephen Foster takes a look back at 2006 by choosing his five favourite CDs by local artists.

FOZ'S TOP 5 LOCAL ALBUMS OF 2006

1. Kerbslider - Highs & Lows

Currently the best Suffolk rock band playing original material. This mini-album contains six songs and doesn't stop for breath. Not difficult to see why our friends across the Atlantic are getting into them. Kerbslider have re-ignited my interest in hard rock and deserve a far bigger following than they have in their home county.

2. Polly Gibbons - What's The Real Reason?

Framlingham's jazz diva moving into all sorts of other musical territories. With British soul star Ola Onabule overseeing the whole project, Polly's debut album exceeds all expectations. This lady could probably sing the phone book and have us hanging on her every word.

3. They Fight Crime - Hints & Tips

Hugely enjoyable original pop from an Ipswich quartet who should have a higher profile locally. All the tracks on this album were composed by Clive Watling and are among the best I've heard from an Ipswich songwriter.

4. Back Porch Band - Sounds Like A Train To Me

At long last Suffolk gets an acoustic blues band. A real good time band with a feel for Delta and a sense of fun. This album was recorded live in front of an invited audience and captures the Back Porch boys in all their glory.

5. Tuscan Raiders - They Can't Take What You Haven't Got

One of the hardest working bands on the local circuit who're now taking a bit of a break. In recent months they've missed Al Bloomfield's lead vocals so I very much hope when they re-convene in 2007 he's back on board and that they build on this impressive debut.

Also recommended……

The Debs Warren Band's Electrify featuring some of the lady's best songs to date, Dragonfly the Floozies' mini-set of Daisy Windsor songs, Whisky Chaser's Rantin' & Rovin' and singer songwriter Al Lindsay's long awaited debut Songs From Under The Table.
