For the last 3 years Bungay residents have lined the street where they live with carved pumpkins on Halloween night. "Each house has a pumpkin delivered, along with a night light and then they are lit when it gets dark," says Dorcas Shepherd, a resident from the area. " As it is a particularly old street it looks absolutely wonderful! Last year we had about 70 pumpkins lining the street." ![]() The windows of Bridge Street It's all part of the town's Halloween celebrations -- and this year organisers say it will the biggest and best ever seen. Some of the locally grown pumpkins are very big - before being hollowed out, the largest weighed in at nearly ten stone. "We wanted to close the street as last year we had a lot of Trick and Treaters and we thought it would be nice for parents to have somewhere safe to bring their children," says Dorcas. "This is a completely non-commercial event – so far we have covered all costs ourselves, as we want it to be something fun for the community." There is also a pumpkin carving party a couple of days before Halloween to bring the community together. The Pumpkins are being displayed in spooky Bridge Street. Volunteers have spent days hollowing them out and then carving all types of faces. ![]() Pumpkins All the pumpkins are grown on a local farm and this year the town has been given permission to close the street to traffic from 6pm until 10.30pm. It's becoming a real highlight for the town .and one thing we can say about the women who take part in the event in Bungay, size really DOES matter.... One woman said ``They're big boys this year - really big and very scary!'' last updated: 23/04/2008 at 14:05 Have Your SayYou are in: Suffolk > Don't Miss > halloween > Halloween Pumpkins |
