With trapeze artists, fire-twirling, demons crawling across the stage and their own version of Iron Maiden's Eddie, you could be forgiven for thinking you've entered a circus of horror, or possibly that the panto season's started early. However, it is indeed the Filth playing their second "homesoil" show following their fan club warm-up gig at the Colchester Arts Centre.  Dani Filth Criticising metal's fixation with the devil and the occult is like trying to order the tide to stop. The heritage goes back to Black Sabbath, mushroomed during the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal in the late 1970s and arguably it can be traced back to the early blues singers such as Robert Johnson and his alleged deal with the devil at the crossroads and the hellhounds on his trail. Whether Cradle Of Filth are "for real" is beside the point - they put on a show to entertain their following and they give them an evening of escapism and a chance to dress-up. In between recording their new album CoF are on a short UK tour to promote the recently released Peace Through Superior Firepower DVD, and the audience in Norwich was pleasantly surprised to find that the evening's performance was also being filmed. Normal bloke-ishness emerges when Dani Filth suggests Norwich City's prospects of getting back into the Premiership are slim, although it doesn't provoke a hail of bottles that he got in Greece a few years back when he mentioned England knocking them out of the World Cup. I love the band, especially Dani. However, I do object to the fixation that the BBC seems to have with making CoF out to be a cultist band. A cult goes and recruits people. Cradle waits for people to find it. By this token, CoF is more like the church - waiting for followers, not forcing people to follow.Sometimes I hate the BBC (although at least they realize that this stuff is important too.) Dani Filth has the best voice in the world. I was one who followed after Alex Varkatzas (Atreyu sscreamer) but hearing Dani make me forget about Alex. The music created by Cradle of Filth is just in a lack of words... great! I can't stop listening to it when I get the chance! Keep on rocking out Cradle of Filth. Also, COF are one of the hardest working bands in metal. Non-stop is the touring, recording, touring.
