T.F.I.S + Dan Foden + Aflightoremember + Shadows on Snow Vagabonds, Ipswich - 15th January 2005 First up is someone going by the name of Shadows on Snow, he played a competent set of tuneful meanderings, perhaps it was the nerves or just the weird surroundings but he seemed a little unsure of himself, but there is something lurking in his performance and I look forward to seeing it spring forth! The next performer tonight is something of a catalyst of the Ipswich acoustic ‘scene’. Going by the name of Aflightoremember, Mark Newby plays one of the most energetic acoustic sets I have seen in a long while. He has recently recorded his debut album and I reckon it’s well worth checking out. He plays with the heaviness of bands like Taking Back Sunday with a soft nasal vocal like Bob Dylan, it’s a great mix. Dan Foden has been playing in the UK and America for about 14 years now despite only being 28 years old. His experience was obvious and he brought a very polished performance to this packed out coffee house. Dan plays with a very light intelligent style, with that magic hum along quality. He's definitely worth catching live if you get the chance. Last on tonight were local favourites Things Found In Sharks and the acoustic banner of the night has given them a very different flavour. Reminiscent of a Dinosaur Jnr MTV unplugged set with a slightly melancholy Autuers style feel to each of the stripped down songs. This has been a very unique evening and hopefully there will be many more. If you would like a totally different experience on a night out, come along to the next show at Vagabonds, the cakes are excellent! |
