About Southwold Lighthouse

The tower, built between 1886 & 1889 was constructed in the town for two reasons. Firstly, that it was a more secure site after the loss of a beach lighthouse at Orford Ness to the south, and secondly because the sands to the north of the town needed to be marked as a hazard. In the far distance you can see the Pier.
