Go to HM Prison Hollesley Bay view 3 » About HMP & YOI Hollesley Bay: HMP Hollesley Bay lies within an estate of 1400 acres of rural Suffolk and is the largest prison farm within the Prison Service. It was founded in 1887 as a residential training establishment for fee-paying students who were going to live in the Colonies. The Prison Commission acquired Hollesley Bay in 1938 when it trained young offenders within the framework of the Borstal system. The establishment now provides different regimes for adult Category D offenders - life sentence prisoners at the end of their custodial time, and Young Offenders. The prisoners are housed on Wilforde, Hoxon, Cosford, Stow and Bosmere units. As well as work on the estate, a Community Service Volunteer scheme operates, where prisoners go out on work placements within the local community. There are also opportunities within the Prince's Trust and the Paid Working Out Scheme. |
